Subject: RE: ME page

Glad to hear you have found a way out of your illness.

I am a Registered Osteopath and Cranio-Sacral Therapist and treat
a lot of ME sufferers, mostly referred to me by local GPs.

Diet seems to be a major factor in most of their illnesses. We
have also found that the functioning of the upper thoracic spine
is often a significant one, as well as the general functioning of
the cranio-sacral system.

I am happy to discuss our approach with individuals, and am happy
for you to pass on my e-mail address to anyone who is interested.

David Harrison
D.O., M.R.O.

PS. I loved your paintings. Good to see something positive come
out of your illness; there usually is with most illness.

comments: The site just carries on getting better! How come that this is the first time that I've seen these paintings? Most impressed! I've not forgotten about the photo, I'm still trying to find a suitable one.

See you soon. Dean.

comments: I dont think you had M.E. !! I think you were just worn out with all the fun you were having ? I wish that was how I got this complaint, but to be serious, it is wonderful that you have shaken it off now, and I most definitely will be trying the diet you were on, or at least not eat the things that you suggest, I had never thought about it before, but every time that I have anything with cheese in, then I always feel very low the next day, so there could be an awful lot in what you have found, keep your fingers crossed and I will let you know if the no-no foods help me, on another point, can you just confirm please that if I contact that therapist who has written on this page, then I do not have to pay any money ??

All the best Sandra

comments:   Dear Catherine,

I have enjoyed reading your information about ME and looking at your great paintings.

I have had ME for exactly 2 years and have made it my New Year's resolution get rid of it.

I was able to get over the physical side of it through a two week intensive Tai Chi course.

I still have the cotton wool head or as you said my brain belongs to someone else.

I think your diet of  'no nos' may be able to help with this so I shall embark on a 2 month strict diet.

What's seems funny is that I have the strangest cravings for almost everything on your list so it won't be easy.

I love a glass of Red Wine so I'm hoping that a yeast free wine may be suitable or is it?

I do often wonder if other ME sufferers find themselves coping with life on automatic pilot quite happily.

Like you I have kids and my own business. Its only when I have do something horrible like go to Sainsbury's that I go

completely to pieces. Is this normal?

And my wife has total disregard for me having ME because I function normally on the exterior while clods of squelchy thingons

keep a firm grip on my brain inside, probably normal again? You probably get bombarded with questions like this, maybe

there's  a forum to ask strange ME questions? Anyway I'm glad I found your, site it has given me comfort.

I'll be in touch again to tell you if  I have my brain back in gear soon.

Thank you

Regards :     Toby Williams

CATHERINE'S RESPONSE

Hello Toby.

First may I say how sorry I am to hear that you have M.E.       I am pleased to see that you are giving the "no-no" foods a try, and by writing down what you eat everyday,  you may find other foods that do not agree with you, so if you do, then please let me have them so they can be added to the "Eating" page, Hmm, I am not quite sure what to say about the Red Wine, yeast free or otherwise, all I can say is that ANY form of alcohol would affect me, so sorry, I can only say NO to the wine, But there is only one way to find out, and that is not to have any for at least two weeks, and then have a glass to see if you have a reaction, so good luck with that one, Super market shopping, well M.E. just does not allow for this !! Shopping can be a Nightmare at any time, but with the low energy threshold that M.E. leaves you with, it just expends all your energy and can set you back for days!! On a personal level, I needed a lot of help from John, especially in the early stages, and in fact on many occasion I had to go home even if we were only half way round the shop ! May I suggest that you sit in the car whilst the bulk of the shopping is done, and then give a hand for the loading into the boot or something, You mention about Tai Chi, Yes I found that good on the spiritual side of life, but you must be careful not to overdo it,  "squelchy thingons in the brain" well I must say I have never heard it called that before, but I think that about sums it up !! and yes, that is one of the "normal" things with M.E. but also some other illnesses as well !! so if you have not been to the doctor yet ?? then I think that is the next step to take, regarding your wife having total disregard for your illness, well this is a difficult one, as you say, sufferers do look fine on the outside, might I suggest you have a look on my Homepage, down the bottom of the page you will find other web sites that are part of the ring for M.E.  as well as some very good doctors that have written on the subject, also, if you send an e-mail to David Harrison  ( dgh@metronet.co.uk ) again I am sure that you will be able to get some information that you will be able to show to your wife, and hopefully she will begin to get a little more insight into M.E.    But remember, at times it can be as hard for your partner as it is for you, so we must be a little forgiving sometimes.

I hope this has helped a bit Toby, and I wish you all the good luck on your diet.

                Best Wishes from CATHERINE

Comments   hi, im emma, ive had m.e. for about two and a half years now.I had glandular fever first which they reckon is                        linked to me getting it.Im currently doing my A levels which im finding hard because i always seem to be ill with                        something which results in missing alot of sixth form.My teachers are understanding unlike my teachers at high                        school who thought i was just lazy.Awareness is still limited although i know people with the condition, my mums                        friend is in a wheel chair as a result.
