Hi, to start off with, I will say sorry to those of you that have knowledge of Amateur Radio, but for those of you that dont ? then I will try to explain some facts.

But04.gif (2623 bytes)       Many people think that the only thing to do with radio is talk ???? WRONG, although many Amateur's enjoy talking to fellow "Hams" all over the world, there are an awful lot of others that enjoy "Construction", this might be from making something very simple, to a full blown radio transmitter, there are others that like to use "Packet Radio" packet is where the radio is used with the computer, to log onto a "BBS" and is used very much in the same way that INTERNET works, except the "HAMS" get it for free ?? did you also know ?? the Amateur Licence permits "transmission" and receiving of Television Pictures ? and that we can receive downloads from all the different satellites such as weather, news etc, also on many occasions Hams have made a direct link to the space ships and have spoken to the astronauts as they have gone overhead !!

BUT, what does all this cost ? well the good news is that you could get started for just a few pounds !! and a few evenings study for the City and Guilds Radio amateurs examination certificate, and once you have your licence, then the world is your oyster, you will also start to learn about all the other interesting things associated with amateur radio, such as.....

rtty, morse, qrp operation, beacons, repeaters, nodes, moon bounce, skip, and many more things with funny sounding names !!   if you (click) on the following page, then you can see what my "shack" looks like, and also find out a bit more about how I use my time on radio ! there is also the address for the "radio society of great Britain" as well as telephone numbers.
